After a day of sea trials on the eve of Barcolana number 46, participants in the initiative promoted by TAG Heuer and the Journal of Sailing to participate in the great Trieste classic (which at the time of writing is underway) tried their hand at our “sailing quiz” in the TAG Heuer/Giornale della Vela hospitality area.
A GAME? YES, BUT.
A game? On paper you, but the first prize, an Aquaracer Heuer chronograph, was coveted by many. The 38 sailors competed in a knot race (in which the competitor could choose which one to execute between flag, speech and gassa d’amante), with Mauro Pelaschier acting as the exceptional judge (and “clubbing” those who tightened the gassa too much or got the speech wrong). The second part of the quiz consisted of the written test. Ten multiple-choice questions. Five minutes to respond. And these were not too obvious questions: the best of all (we won’t name names) scored 9/10.
The technical jury (headed by Pelaschier) retired a few minutes to decide the winner, second and third (who went, respectively, a 5-year and 3-year subscription to the Journal of Sailing). Here are photos of the awardees.
1st CLASSIFIED – Jacopo Neri
2nd CLASSIFIED – Andrea Piangerelli
3rd CLASSIFIED – Riccardo Logozzo
