_JRT7188The port of Portoferraio on the island of Elba was the protagonist of the arrival and reception of the splendid Ladies of the Sea registered for the first edition of the Régate Napoléon, organized by the AIVE (Italian Association of Vintage Sails) to celebrate the bicentenary of Napoleon’s exile to the beautiful Tuscan island. Departing Friday, June 13, from La Spezia, the vintage boats entered in the Régate Napoléon sailed all night under the magical wake of the full moon, which accompanied them to Elba. The reception in the Tuscan port was warm and impressive, making this first edition an event to be repeated.

The ranking sees Madifra, a hull launched in 1965 at the Gino d’Este shipyard in Fiumicino based on a 1957 design by Englishman ‘Jack’ Laurent Giles, took first place in the Classic Yacht category, followed by Ella (class of 1960) and by Corsair II (class1961), while in the Vintage Yachts category Argyll (class 1948) takes the first step of the podium, ahead of Eilean (class 1937: by the way, here is the story from aboard by our Veronica Bottasini) and Tomahawk (class 1939).

Fourteen classic yachts that participated in the Régate Napoléon set off again today for Argentario, in a race leading up to Argentario Sailing Week, scheduled to take place in the Tuscan waters of Porto Santo Stefano June 20-22.
