The European ORC in Valencia could not have started in a more spectacular way: headwinds, formed waves, whirlwinds, sudden downpours and…a few course incidents, the kind where no one gets hurt. Someone after seeing this photo on Facebook made the assumption that it was, more like the European Swimming Championships.
Joking aside, the two “accidental” swimmers are Niko Mascoli and Carlos Hernandez Robayna: they were aboard the Neo 400 Fermax when a failure of the lower dragnets, with the boat heeled over (and thus with the crew “hiking”), caused them to tumble into the water. The watchful eye of photographer Jesús Renedo (and that of Italian Max Ranchi) did not miss the scene. The crew of Paolo Semeraro’s boat was not unprepared and within minutes managed to recover the two boys on board, resuming the race. In addition to this beautiful picture, we show you the gallery of the first, adrenaline-filled day of the ORC European Championship.
