Giancarlo Pedote and Sébastien Josse win the first Atlantic regatta of 2014 aboard Prysmian ITA 747. They left yesterday at 11:07 a.m. from Lorient and took 17 hours, 56 minutes and 45 seconds to reach Pronichet following the unprecedented route of the 2014 Lorient-Bretagne Sud Mini, which involves circumnavigating the Belle-Ile and Groix islands from the south.
Giancarlo and Sébastien passed the disengagement buoy first and retained the lead throughout the course of the regatta, which was characterized by lower-than-expected winds due to the ridge that was positioned over the race course affecting the southwesterly flow established by the current depression.
Upon their arrival, Giancarlo said that they kept an upwind speed throughout the descent to Belle-Ile, where they armed the Spi which they maintained until Groix. Then, at Le Chariot, they dispatched the Gennaker. “We encountered conditions for sailing across the beam a few times. 12 knots average in the fog, nice! We gave the boat the green light again after the winter break!” commented Giancarlo.
“Racing with Séb was a great pleasure as always. It is interesting to compare with someone who has very in-depth experience in the upper grades of the ‘course au large’ “.
Prysmian ITA 747 crossed the finish line at 02:56 and 45 seconds.
