The world’s most famous vintage sail circuit, sponsored by Officine Panerai, celebrates its first ten years with a record number of entries. 80 boats, never so many. This is a strong sign for vintage sails, which are increasingly confirmed as protagonists of the regatta scene. With Le Voiles d’Antibes (June 4-8) the Mediterranean circuit begins with the following schedule:
June 19-22 Argentario Sailing Week;
July 2-6 Le Vele d’Epoca in Naples;
August 26-30 Mahon XI Copa del Rey de barcos de epcoca;
September 10-14Vintage Sailsof Imperia
September 23-27 Cannes Reagtes Royals.
German Frèrs’ Sonny
Notable presences include German Frèrs aboard his Sonny, the first boat built by the Argentine designer: a Bermudian cutter, long
14.83 meters, built of mahogany wood and featuring a canoe-shaped stern.

Of note is the change of boat by multi-time winner Mauro Pelaschier, who gave up the helm of Leonore to move up as tactician aboard Namib a 1966 Sangermani from Italian owner Pietro Bianchi with Davide Besana at the helm. Then there could be no shortage of Eilean, the Bermudian ketch built in 1937 by William Fife&sSons to represent Officine Panerai.
And to top it all off we also find Pete Townshend, legendary guitarist of The Who on board his Eva, an auric cutter built of mahogany and teak wood with dimensions similar to those of an 8 Meters International Tonnage .
