The 2015 Palermo-Montecarlo, the 11th edition of the regatta organized by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia with the collaboration of the Yacht Club de Monaco, has its official winners.
The winner of the Giuseppe Tasca d’Almerita Trophy, first in real time to cross the finish line, is the super maxi Esimit Europa 2, owned by Igor Simcic, skipper Jochen Schimann, helmsman Alberto Bolzan. It should be noted that Esimit also broke his own record, setting a new course record of 47 hours, 46 minutes and 48 seconds.
EXTRA… EXTRA 1
Two compensated time classifications: IRC and ORC. In the IRC Group, first place was Extra 1, Massimo Barranco’s X41 armed by Circolo della Vela Sicilia, skipper Piero Majolino, navigator Matteo Ivaldi. Second place in IRC plywood for SL Energies Groupe Fastwave, Laurent Charmy’s French J111, and third step on the podium for Globulo Rosso, Alessandro Burzi’s Este 31. In the ORC Group, the top two places are confirmed: victory for Extra 1, second place for SL Fastwave. In third place ORC, however, was Esimit Europa 2, which then ennobled the record race with a significant podium finish in plywood. Triumphing in both classifications, Circolo della Vela Sicilia’s X41 Extra 1 wins the Angelo Randazzo Trophy to the winner of the largest category in compensated time.
THE OTHER WINNERS
The podium of the Palermo-Montecarlo X2 (with two crew) sees the success of the French J111 SL Energies Groupe Fastwave, which is therefore among the most awarded boats at this edition; second place for Roma Ocean World Patricia II, the Class 40 of Mario Girelli and Matteo Miceli; and in third Bora First, the First 36.7 with Piercarlo Antonelli and Antonio Buonpane. Prizes also related to first-place finishers at the Porto Cervo gate passage, in collaboration with the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda. Almost a monologue for the maxi Esimit Europa 2, which came first in both real time and ORC and IRC plywood. While the top X2 ranking in Porto Cervo is once again SL Energies Group Fastwave.
