swan 38
From the mid-1970s to the late 1980s, one-tonners dominated the performance cruiser market. They are boats to be reevaluated for elegance and performance that are still relevant today
, here are ten models on the market that still excite.

canados 371. CANADOS 37
The prototype participated in a prestigious world championship in its category (One Ton Cup) in Naples in 1980 with success. The Vallicelli-designed Canados 37 is a fine fast cruising boat, well built by the Canados shipyard in Ostia, with good quality joinery in the interior, which could be either teak or oak. The below-deck layout is classic with a forward cabin, a saloon with convertible dinette and a high bulkhead berth, galley and charting, an aft cabin, and a bathroom. Under sail she went like a “splinter.” Data: Length: mt.11.3 – Width: mt.3.63. Produced from 1980 to 1985
Current valuation 30 to 50,000

v cat 382. V CAT 38
It was the boat with which in 1976 with the first example, the Gattone, the Vallicelli family (Andrea is the designer) won countless regattas. Elegant lines, “corrugated” sandwich construction, characteristic of the Artmare yard that built it. Characteristic V-shaped stern, flaring of the hull at the accentuated maximum beam. Excellent boating and wave-passing qualities. Classical interior of fair workmanship. Produced with single or double cockpit. Data: Length: mt.11.65 – Width: mt.3.50. Produced from 1976 to 1983. Current valuation from 20 to 35,000

beneteau-first3. BENETEAU FIRST 375
Designed by Jean Berret and produced in 270 examples, the First 375 is a classically designed boat with a well-balanced “retractable” deckhouse and a full, pleasing stern. The deck plan is simple, with a teak-lined cockpit gathered and wide walkways. The interiors were planned to have two or three cabins, with a galley facing the chartroom and a large dinette with two bulkhead sofas and fold-down table. A toilet was planned. There is also an S version with an extended shaft of 40 cm . There are also two bulb versions, short and long. Data: Length: mt.11.3 – Width: mt.3.63. Produced from 1985 to 1989
Current valuation 50 to 65,000

Carter 37-Mustang-profile00014. CARTER 37
Noble lineage for the Carter 37 produced by the Greek shipyard Olympic Marine. The prototype is none other than the legendary Ydra with which Straulino won the One Ton Cup in 1973. Noble origins also for the design which is by Dick Carter who reached his best series production with this boat. Elegant lines, a harmonious deckhouse blends with the low freeboard hull and a beautiful stern. Large square set at the generous maximum beam. Data: Length: mt.11.28 – Breadth: mt.3.63. Produced from 1973 to 1980. Current valuation from 35 to 55,000 euros

jeanneau-sun-fast-41-5. JEANNEAU SUN FAST 41
It took the place of the successful Sun Fizz in 1985 and was produced until 1994 in about 600 examples (from 1990 with major modifications it became the Sun Fast 41). Doug Peterson designed a boat with very pure lines, beautiful and sleek. Fast in all conditions, she is particularly powerful in light winds in the masted version and has a smooth wave passage. Two cabins in the owner’s version and three in the “team” version. Two toilets. Data: Length: mt.12.45 – Width: mt.3.98. Produced from 1985 to 1994. Current valuation 45 to 65,000

swan 386. SWAN 38
Big bow momentum, narrow stern, a deckhouse with a blue line. It is the Swan 38, one of Sparkman & Stephens’ latest designs. It was produced from 1974 to 1980 in 116 examples. The boat is beautiful for those who like classic lines, narrow sterns, and don’t mind if the interior is a bit sacrificed. Under sail, it passes over the wave smoothly, even if the sea is formed. Data: Length: mt.11.60 – Width: mt.3.52. Produced from 1974 to 1980. Current valuation from 70 to 95,000 euros

polaris 377. POLARIS 37 (ALTURA 1101)
Big brother to the Polaris 33, the 37 is an apt design by one of the designers on the crest of a wave in the 1980s, Ron Holland. The line features a stern with a “hump” that looks like the hood of a Volkswagen Beetle. No counter-molds, full fiberglass construction with the bulkheads resined to the hull, with stiffening stringers. If the boat is spartan and poor in detail, the hull is excellent, performing well in all conditions. The Polaris shipyard closed in 1981 and the molds were taken over by Altura, which renamed it Altura 1101, changing, for the worse aesthetically, the deckhouse. Data: Length: mt.11.22 – Width: mt.3.63. Produced from 1980 to 1983
Current valuation 30 to 45,000

baltic 378. BALTIC 37
Baltic 37 (produced from 1978 to ’86) was one of the greatest successes of that period. She was a “splinter” in upwind, medium and strong winds. Like all hulls of the time it cut through the wave with ease, the only downside was in stern swells where it was not very fast and a bit unstable. The build quality of the fiberglass construction with balsa sandwich and the quality of the interior cabinetry were at the highest level. The below-deck arrangements included two cabins, the saloon, galley, chart room, toilet and various closets. The sail rigging was at the masthead and the deck, in almost all models, lined with teak planking. Data: Length: mt.11.30 – Width: mt.3.66.Produced from 1978 to 1986. Current valuation from 60 to 75,000

show 389. SHOW 38
Using a Fontana-Maletto-Navone racing hull, the Show 38 is an excellent example of a fast cruising hull (production from ’85 to ’89). Built of hand layered fiberglass with a large sail plan, Barberis makes a leap in interior quality with this boat, better than in previous boats. Two cabins aft and one forward, Quadrato with a U-shaped dinette that can be converted into a double bed, large galley area, a large chart and two bathrooms. As usual in race-derived boats of those years, somewhat sacrificed the cockpit. Data: Length: mt.11.3 – Width: mt.3.63. Produced from 1985 to 1989. Current valuation from 35 to 50,000 euros

swan 37110. SWAN 371
One of the first designs, this is 1979, by Ron Holland for Nautor, after Sparkman&Stephens and before German Frers who still signs the Swan boats. A peculiar boat, you can tell Holland adapted to the requirements of the Swan building and aesthetic canon of that period. Eighty-seven examples were built. Data: Length: mt.11.28 – Width: mt.3.46. Produced from 1979 to 1986. Current valuation from 75 to 95,000
