After Cantiere del Pardo (with the Grand Soleil 46 LC), Comar is also jumping into the blue water world: drawings of the new Comet 46 EX were presented. EX stands for both Explorer and Extreme: not surprisingly, the boat, designed by a “pool of brains” under the aegis of Pierpaolo Ballarini (involved in the realization STYachts by Doug Schickler and Davide Tagliapietra, who took care of the structures and appendages; the H3O that provided the executive drawings of the project; Smar Azur, an Irish company that took care of the optimization of the sail plan), is proposed as a safe vessel to challenge any condition. From the ice of the poles to the scorching heat of the Equator.
INTERIOR
In short, a boat with which you could take part in the adventures around the world organized by Jimmy Cornell and followers. The interiors are by Comar Yachts (the Lazio shipyard was also responsible for the engineering): 2- or 3-cabin and two-bathroom layouts are available, with many possibilities for customization as per the philosophy the shipyard has pursued in recent years.
HULL
The watchword when studying the design of the hull was “stability,” but without disdaining the possibility of having a boat that could develop good speeds during carrying swells but also ensure “smooth” passage over the upwind wave. Six hull types were first conceived and then compared with a sophisticated CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) program until the “square” was found. The hull is made of vinylester infusion and Kevlar glass for maximum impact and compressive strength and carbon reinforcements in the most stressed areas. A sacrificial crash box is provided in the bow, the stern locker is perfectly watertight due to the adoption of stainless steel bulkhead passes, watertight sail cove with anti-collision bulkhead, and a watertight door to the forward cabin upon request.
COVER
The deckhouse, slightly raised toward the bow, turns into a useful toeboard when the boat is heeled. The cockpit (which houses two rudders, a table below which the life raft is stowed, and two L-shaped benches) is deep and provides protection from spray even in harsh conditions. In addition, all maneuvers are deferred close to the helmsmen’s stations (there is also a center winch, a solution also seen on larger Pogo boats) to ensure easy handling of the boat even with a smaller crew. Standard roll bar.
CHIGLIA
The keel is pivoting and is supported by a mighty structure: it is operated by a hydraulic system which, in case of collision, unlocks the handling mechanism and prevents damage. In the raised position (and thus with a draft of 1.60 meters, a measurement that allows entry into any harbor) it is able, together with the two rudder blades, to support the winged boat in a stable position!

Jean Marie Finot has left us, one of the greatest naval architects who ever designed a hull. A pioneer and signature of excellence, Finot was a true sculptor of boating, participating fully in making it as we know it today.

X-Yachts owners, unite: there’s a regatta just for you (even Classic!).
In 1979 a shipyard was born that was destined to carve its name in the history of yachting: it was X-Yachts, of which the legendary X-79 became the standard-bearer. An excellent first design, signed Jeppesen, the small 7.9-meter would be
