The announcement of the Council of Ministers’ approval of the new Marina di Otranto highlighted a glaring problem in the Italian nautical economy, that of the sustainable development of our ports. To try to change this, an operational agreement was signed between the Port Authority, Unioncamere and Assonat (National Association of Tourist Ports and Harbors), which aims to define a series of proposals for administrative simplification for companies operating in the construction or management of Tourist Ports and Harbors and to strengthen the network of Italian tourist ports, including with qualification systems for ports and harbors to promote them in Italy and abroad.
“The battles aimed at protecting nautical tourism and tourist ports are as urgent and important as ever in this country,” said Assonat president Luciano Serra – Despite the fake afterthoughts and fake openings today they still think they can hit businesses operating in this sector with laws that are questionable to say the least. We immediately seized the opportunity to formalize a path that has long been shared with the Port Authority and Unioncamere because we are convinced that now, more than ever, is the time when there is a need to team up but to really make it happen.”
A few numbers are enough to explain the growth potential of nautical tourism: the economic impact generated by tourist presences in Italian seaside resorts is estimated at more than 19 billion euros, or 1 billion more than tourism in art cities. The total spending induced by nautical tourism is just under 1.5 billion euros, and most of this takes place near marinas. Their development would really be crucial for revitalization.
