“Movement” Mini 6.50: how good our boys are.

miniAfter the great results achieved by our miners at the 2013 Transat, the Italian “ocean movement” is confirmed to be more active than ever. Let’s start with Giancarlo Pedote‘s splendid one-two punch.: after making a great start to the 2014 season with his victory in the 2014 Lorient-Bretagne Sud Mini (achieved in doubles with Sébastien Josse), the Florentine sailor, aboard Prysmian 747, replicated this solo-race at Pornichet Select, the second Atlantic regatta of the Mini 6 Class.50 and first solo-race valid for the Championnat de France “Promotion” Course au Large, one of the most challenging of the year, with its 300-mile solo course among the islands and buoys of the southern coast of Brittany and Vendée.

ALSO ZAMBELLI AND BONA, WHAT A PAIR!
And if Pedote, a Transat silver medalist, “rocks” in France, the two minnows Alberto Bona (fifth at the Transat among the Series) and Michele Zambelli (tenth among the protos) also don’t joke in our waters. As a pair, aboard Zambelli’s proto Fontanot, they triumphed at the Grand Prix d’Italia Mini, the regatta organized by the YCI on the 530-mile long course Genoa – Capraia Island – La Caletta – Giannutri – Genoa, ahead of France’s Romain Mouchel and Nikki Curwen.

PENDIBENE, THE “LONE MILITARY MAN”
Among the Series the gold was won by Andrea Pendibene and Giovanna Valsecchi aboard Marina Militare, followed by Davide Lusso and Federico Fornaro on Mastep. Pendibene, who was born in 1981, completed his first Mini Transat in 2007: in 2009 he won the Grand Prix Petit Navire on the Class40 Tim with Giovanni Soldini, and in 2011 he joined the Navy, giving life, together with the director of the Centro Velico Marina Militare Sergio Lamanna, to the project that sees him engaged in the preparation for the 2015 Mini Transat, which he will face aboard a new boat, armed by the best made-in-Italy excellences (among others Mafra and Salice). If all goes well, he will be the second Italian serviceman to take part in an ocean challenge after Captain Franco Faggioni, who participated in the 1972 OSTAR on Sagittario.
