You know, our transalpine cousins put seamanship and practicality of use ahead of everything when it comes to boats. The victory of the Mojito 8.88, from the IDB Marine shipyard, as “Voilier de l’annĂ©e” for our French cousins at Voile Magazine should also be seen in this light.
A NINE-METER… COL TENDER
At 8.88 meters long and 3.45 meters wide, it has a movable drift that brings the draft down from 2.25 to only 0.95 meters. The hull design, with very pronounced edges, leads the Mojito 8.88 to glide under asymmetrical spi above fifteen knots. For ease of handling, the standard sail plan includes a powerful mainsail (with a full-width luff) that can be handled directly by the helmsman (by the way, the rudder is strictly tiller), while at the bow we find the self-tacking jib, for a total of 56 square meters of surface area. Designing the Mojito 8.88 was Pierre Rolland, a designer with extensive experience in ocean boats, both production and racing boats.
The cockpit is well protected, with a transom that can be folded down to create a swim platform raised above the water surface because underneath… we find the tender garage! Yep, a special solution, as you can see in the picture above, that allows the service boat to be kept ready for use even if we are on a boat of less than nine meters.
MINIMALISM IN POWER
The presence of the garage for the tender does not detract from the interior space. Here the shipyard opted for a solution that could be called “semi-open space“: there is no separation between the saloon, dominated by a central table with decidedly oversized folding tops, and the double berth in the bow. Toward the stern, however, we find the kitchen, bathroom with shower and a second double berth. The base price of the Mojito 8.88 is 97,000 euros. Data: lft. 8.88 m; wd. 3.45 m; draught. 2.25/0.95 m; disl. 2800 kg; sup. vel. 56 sq. m. IDB Marine, www.idbmarine.com

X-Yachts owners, unite: there’s a regatta just for you (even Classic!).
In 1979 a shipyard was born that was destined to carve its name in the history of yachting: it was X-Yachts, of which the legendary X-79 became the standard-bearer. An excellent first design, signed Jeppesen, the small 7.9-meter would be
