GUEST OF HONOR: COMANCHE
Great anticipation for the guest of honor, Comanche, Jim Clark’s 100-footer captained by Ken Read fresh from winning the Fastnet royalty and the 24-hour course record (618.01 miles): it will be tough to beat. Also for the other 100-footers, Lindsay Owen-Jones’ Wally Magic Carpet Cubed (last year’s winner) and Claus Peter Offen’s Y3K, winner of three Maxi Yacht Rolex Cups. Leonardo Ferragamo’s new Swan 115S Solleone and the 218.8-foot (66.7 m) megayacht Hetairos are also among the “very large.”
WALLY AND MINI MAXI
There will be 13 Wallys competing, and 6 will be Mini Maxis competing in the World Championship instead: Dieter Schon’s Momo, Sir Peter Ogden’s Jethou, Roberto Tomasini Grinover’s Robertissima III, Caol Ila R (Ocean Racing IV), George Sakellaris’ Proteus and Hap Fauth’s Bella Mente. The first of the five-day regatta will be Monday, 7.
