A few days ago we published an account of a mishap that happened to one of our readers, Federico Rampini, who found himself embroiled, after chartering a boat in Croatia, in an endless odyssey along with the captain of another sailboat he had unwittingly damaged, due to an “evanescent” insurance company. The affair has not gone unnoticed, and Gianni Costetti, of the maritime brokerage firm Navalia, who works and has worked so much in Croatia, has written us a letter defending what to date is absolutely the Mecca of Mediterranean charterers, capable of surpassing even Greece in numbers. To you readers always the word, let us know what you think!
GIANNI COSTETTI’S LETTER
“Dear Sirs,
we are a travel agency, tour operator and shipping broker. We have been working in this field since 1996, and have provided and assisted our clients all these years for more than 10,000 weeks of leases in Croatia. I would like to inform you that none of our customers have had these problems.
On the contrary, sometimes (fortunately few) it was the misbehavior of Italian customers that created problems. There are more than 3,500 boats working in charter in Croatia for an average of about 20 weeks per year per boat, and it is probably the most correct nation in the yacht charter business in the Mediterranean!
Go one Saturday to Sukosan (perhaps the largest charter marina in the Mediterranean) and you will realize the amount of people who sail Croatia every week renting pleasure boats, believe us it is thousands every week! Let us not create alarmism and give readers a different testimony, example our own.
Best regards
Gianni”
