Surfersvillage Global Surf News, Dec. 14, 2013 – Kelly Slater ( USA) , 41, won the Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons for the seventh time in three- to four-meter waves. Slater defeated John John Florence ( HAW ) , 21 , in a hard-fought final round that lasted more than half an hour and crowned him champion by just half a point.

The 2013 ASP World Championship Tour ( WCT ) season ended on a high note with the victory of Mick Fanning ( AUS ) , 32.

“It was a strange finish, ” said Slater . ” John John ( Florence ) and I waited a while before going into the water, certainly being in first gave me a little advantage ” .

This umpteenth victory established, if there was still a need, Kelly Slater as one of the longest-serving champions in the entire sporting landscape.

” The audience today was great, ” Slater said . “We are so excited to be here, especially when the waves are as good as today. All the viewers on the beach on the Internet and on television make the event even more exciting. ”

Some speculate that Slater is now satiated with victories “this is proof that I am not, my career has been punctuated by exciting days but “cooing” here in the company of John John and the other competitors was unique, to win then, was priceless, I don’t know what will happen in 2014 but as long as my health sustains me the urge to retire I just won’t feel it. Today was one of the most special days of my life, ” Slater continued . “It is a day I have dreamed of since I was a kid -a big wave , perfect, angled -a tube from Masters. I want to experience more days like this, so I will come again next year.

So let’s get ready for Kelly in the coming year to continue to thrill us with the class and stuff of an ageless champion.
