The good time, for Italians, could be in 2017. At the press conference presenting the Volvo Ocean Race 2014-15, the three “biggies” of Italian sailing, Circolo Canottieri Aniene (which hosted the conference, featuring around-the-world race CEO Knut Frostad), the Yacht Club Italiano, the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and their representatives Giovanni Malagò, Carlo Croce and Riccardo Bonadeo said they will commit to a tricolor crew at the next edition of the Volvo. Also because it is Frostad himself, within the same press conference, who stated that he would very much like a possible Italian participation in the regatta.

In this edition of the ex-Whitbread, meanwhile, five teams will definitely take part (the all-female one, Team Sca, the Dutch of Team Brunel, the Chinese of Dongfeng, the Arabs of Abu Dhabi and the Turkish-Americans of Alvimedica), with the possibility of the entry of a sixth Spanish team, led by Pedro Campos, and, rumor has it, with the two most famous Spanish sailors, Iker Martinez and Xabier Fernandez, on board. THE ROUTE OF THE REGATTA
The route of more than 39 thousand total miles will depart from Alicante, Spain, on Oct. 4, followed by an eastward route with stops in Cape Town, Abu Dhabi, Sanya, Auckland, Itajai, Newport before returning to European waters-Lisbon, Lorient, and Gothenburg in tribute to the Swedish automotive giant that sponsors the event.
