ARIA, the 8m SI racing yacht (designed by Costaguta, 1935) owned by owner Serena Galvani, celebrated its 80th anniversary at the Yacht Club Adriaco in Trieste.
A LADY OF THE SEA STILL IN PERFECT SHAPE
The historic vessel, launched in 1935 in Genoa Voltri, is indisputably one of the best examples of 8m SIs in the world. Reborn in 1998 after a careful and laborious restoration, which was followed by two more over time, ARIA, thanks to its perfect lines and the mastery of the crews who drove it, has confirmed an astonishing youth and vitality, winning an enviable palmarès. Talented sailors such as Cino Ricci, Mauro Pelaschier, Roberto Ferrarese have taken turns on his deck., Dani De Grassi, Alberto Leghissa, and Alessandro Alberti, and there have been many victories for this queen of the sea, including the 1999 European Championship, the runner-up at the 2000 World 8m SI, the 2001 America’s Cup Jubilee, three consecutive victories at Grandi Vele Gaeta 2008-2010, and no less than seven first places over all in France at Noirmoutier-en-l ÃŽle in 2002-2004 and 2010-2013.
NEW LIFE AND NEW VICTORIES FOR AIR
The day saw ARIA take center stage in a celebration dedicated to the never-fading passion for vintage sails that still bear witness to the skills and ingenuity of Italian designers and shipwrights. ARIA, after a long stay in France, then returned to her beloved Trieste to “live” as a member at the Yacht Club Adriaco and, far from retirement, continue to fly the waves with her usual passion and the wish for a hundred new victories.
