SAILING-US-FRANCE-HYDROPTERE-RECORD ATTEMPT
No record in the ocean, but Hydroptère still makes history. Alain Thebault’s flying trimaran failed to break the record for crossing the Pacific from Los Angeles to Honolulu, set in 2005
(a sporting era ago) by the legendary Olivier de Kersauson and his crew in 4 days 19 hours and 31 minutes aboard the maxi trimaran Geronimo.

630bNEVER HAD ANYONE TRIED THIS BY “FLYING”
Hydroptere, 18 meters long and 23 meters wide, nevertheless made history once again (it had already done so in 2009 as the first boat to break the 50-knot speed barrier, with 51.36 knots over the 500-meter distance and 50.17 knots average over the mile): never before had any hydrofoil-equipped hull tackled an ocean.

SPITHILL ALSO ON BOARD
In the latter stages of training, a familiar face of “flying sailing” was also seen on board, that James Spithill who led Oracle to victory in the last America’s Cup with a great comeback after being down 1 to 8 against New Zealand.
