Grand prize of loyalty to Ewol, the Milan-based company specializing in hi-tech propellers ideal for sailors, in its third consecutive VELAFestival out of three editions. Its flagship product is definitely the E3 propeller, made from stainless steel alloys that represent the highest technology in terms of resistance to marine corrosion and galvanic corrosion, it is also equipped with the finest technical solutions that make it unparalleled in the market.
MATERIALS
E3 components are made from superduplex-type stainless steel alloys, materials developed by steel mills to be able to perform extremely heavy tasks on Off-Shore oil exploration platforms. These are advanced metallurgy alloys, very expensive but absolutely superior to bronze alloys in terms of mechanical and corrosion resistance at sea. Parts are machined on machining centers specially equipped to cope with the complexity of chip removal.
THE MECHANICAL SOLUTIONS
Interchangeable sliding bushings
All mechanical parts of the propeller are not subject to the classic effects of marine corrosion found on conventional propellers, so the only wear parts are the interchangeable bushings. Such a solution allows the propeller to be easily serviced after years of operation and thus restore the initial clearances without having to incur the cost of buying a new propeller.
Gears
The bevel gear pair for commanding blades, is made with helical toothed gears, which not only provide higher strength than straight-toothed gears, but also ensure more precise positioning and rolling of the gears. This feature ensures immediate and precise blade positioning during various gaits, dramatically reducing the stopping shocks on the gears.
Micrometric pitch adjustment
The EWOL E3 is the only propeller on the market that has a micrometric pitch adjustment device: in fact, the minimum fraction of adjustment is ¼ degree, while other propellers on the market have a minimum fraction of 2° or 2.5°. This is an absolutely important factor in order to achieve the correct operating point of the engine, which must allow for the best compromise between the installed power and the waterline length of the boat, thus ensuring better efficiency and lower fuel consumption.
Asymmetric pitch
The pitch adjustment acts only on the forward gear by avoiding varying the pitch of the reverse gear, which must provide excellent maneuverability but without exceeding speed constraints in port.
