We publish a letter received in our editorial office from Maurizio Panciroli, an Emilian owner of a Grand Soleil 34 who, last summer, he found himself paying for a berth he could not use due to the failure to dredge the harbor. The request for reimbursement, even partial reimbursement, was answered in the negative. Read below and let us know what you think.
“I am writing this letter of mine to report something that recently happened to me, which I think is very unfair. Last summer, as I have for several years now, I paid the summer mooring fee at the Riccione Sailing Club for my sailboat, a Grand Soleil 34, which has a draft of 1.80 meters.
THE “GHOST” DREDGING
Unfortunately, however, the dock was not dredged as usual at the beginning of the summer season, as a result, after several mooring attempts, even made at high tide, to reach the assigned berth I had to desist because of the lack of seabed, first thinking it was a temporary situation then becoming permanent as the dredging operation never happened.
NO COMPENSATION
Therefore, I had to take my boat to the port of Rimini, paying for the berth again, and to my request for compensation (even partial compensation) I received a negative response. I am now wondering what I can do to get back the money paid to the Riccione Sailing Club for a berth that I could not take advantage of.
AN ITALIAN PROBLEM?
My reflection is also addressed to the difficulty that boating encounters in times of crisis such as the ones we are experiencing, and that certainly the attitude of a Nautical Club in a tourist town like Riccione does not help.It is no wonder that European tourists prefer to go to countries such as Slovenia, Croatia, etc. where they find more welcome, organization and fairness.”
