1It is called G4 and it is the first catamaran From “cruising” equipped with foils. The idea was developed by the Gunboat shipyard (known for its catamarans, including the titular 55-footer): and it could only have come from the Americans. During testing of the prototype, in St. Maarten, Caribbean, the Gunboat development team, on board in full, reached a speed of 29.7 knots and the 40-foot catamaran hoisted itself into the air, as documented in the gallery below. The site’s Facebook page reads, “A historic day in the waters of St. Marteen. The G4 lifted off into the air. Top speed 29.7 knots.” An idea that is peculiar to multihulls. When will we see the first cruising monohull with foils? www.gunboat.com
