The 65th Centomiglia del Garda, the great classic of CV Gargnano, the longest-running regatta held in Europe on inland waters, the longest-running in Italy and one of the most fascinating for all sailing owners, (and which started this year amid controversy), already has its winners: among them is not the name of Clandesteam, “matador” of the last three editions. The regatta was held on a day characterized by an excellent northerly wind that blew throughout the event. Large audience on the shores of Gargnano and the entire upper part of Lake Garda.
THE WINNERS.
Pending all final results, as far as multihulls are concerned, victory went to Italians Oscar Roberti and Maurizio Servalli aboard the Tornado White Star in the Giorgio Zuccoli Trophy reserved for catamarans on the short course and to Hagar 3 on the long course. Among the monohulls, however, triumphed-after three years of winning Clandesteam(READ ALL THE PRE-REGATE POLEMICS HERE)-which compunque triumphed in Class 0- Cool Runnings by British shipowner with German roots Juncker Thorkild, which cut in at 15:37.
THE CENTOMIGLIA
The first edition of the Centomiglia del Garda was held on September 8 and 9, 1951. The regatta is open to sailboats of different classes of monohulls and multihulls and is a must-attend event among top sailors; some owners prepare boats specifically for the regatta. This is the full-lake regatta with departure from Bogliaco, ascent to Torbole, descent to Desenzano, and return to Bogliaco. There are differentiated routes based on the characteristics of the 300 participating monohull boats. Other routes are dedicated exclusively to fast multihulls.
