Adriano Gatta is one of our contributors:
a native of Brescia, born in 1956, a free-rider, mountaineer, former national judo team member, photography enthusiast and, as of today, a “whirlwind hunter.” It is his photos that we show you (before Adriano’s story, which you will find at the bottom) in this gallery, taken off the coast of Capraia:

LOOK AT THESE PICTURES…WOULD YOU BE AFRAID?

ADRIAN’S STORY
We were in front of Capraia when the first waterspout formed out of nowhere; the water was boiling, it was the first time I had seen one (at the lake, this never happens) and when, after I had closed everything down, I started motoring toward the coast, another one formed and was running toward Bravo Papa 3. Everywhere I moved they seemed to chase me, so much so that, in my ignorance, I even thought that the engine or some part of the boat(mast, antennas etc,) might attract them. Fortunately, after about 15 minutes (of fear!!!!), in a very few moments they dissolved almost simultaneously“.
