The Carlo Negri Cup, now in its 45th year, turns out to be orphaned of historic sponsor Pirelli but still capable of attracting international interest as well, particularly Russian and Danish (Vertical Smile). The strong point is always the beautiful location of the Gulf of Portofino, also known as the Gulf of Nesci, because there is always little wind.
This year was even less bad than others, although it took more luck than tactical wisdom to win, the wind was jumping mockingly, and we will long remember the “bubbles” in front of the arrivals with the Beppe Croce and Jack the Bubble just a few meters away but very far away.
Color note, the usual prize car, (this year an Alfa Mito) went to Jerry Ford (small photo), on Bottadritta. I feel it a little bit my own I must say, in fact every time I meet him, Jerry remembers how my grandfather saved his life, when once he fell into the water from a goitre he couldn’t climb back up and was accidentally fished out by my ancestor.
Jerry, frankly, if it wasn’t for one of my family, you couldn’t win the car, could you at least give me a ride?
