Harold William (Bill) Tilman ‘s life is unparalleled: no one can boast of a series of adventures and explorations at the highest level as both a mountaineer and a sailor like him. As well as feats of great heroism during both world wars. Tilman can be considered thelast romantic hero of the last century, determined in action and contemptuous of danger. Yet Tilman is little known, especially outside the Anglo-Saxon world to which he belonged. His books, he wrote no less than fifteen, seven of them about mountains and eight about the sea, except for one about Nepal, have not been translated into Italian despite being so fascinating and full of subtle humor that together they constitute the novel of a life worthy of a great film. With finale to leave you glued to your seat. Let us try to retrace together the life of this great mountaineer-sailor, dwelling in particular on the sailor-sailor, that is, his second life as a sailor-explorer. A life that can be safely divided into two parts: before and after the age of 55. That is, before and after the discovery of sailing. Find the full article in the May issue of the Sailing Journal.
