Good first for the “kick-off” event of the Italian Sailing Champions League at RYCC Savoia in Naples: 45 tight races in three days aboard the Este 24s. Now even Italy has its own club ranking! The three days of great battles at sea decreed the final victory of the Palermo team of the Roggero di Lauria Rowing Club, captained by Gabriele Bruni, who with one race to spare lined up the Sailing Society of Barcola and Grignano and the Yacht Club Adriaco, separated by only one point in the standings. Within a ten-point handkerchief, eight other teams are enclosed. The ranking of the event is the starting point for the 2016 regatta circuit.
THE NEWLY FORMED RANKING LIST OF CIRCLES
NOW LET’S CHEER FOR THE SICILIANS AND THE PEOPLE OF TRIESTE
The Sicilians (in addition to Bruni, the crew counted Matteo Ivaldi at the helm, Filippo La Mantia, Giuseppe Angilella, and Giuseppe Leonardi) and the Trestini of Barcola and Grignano (captain Mitja Gialuz, helmsman Alessandro Bonifacio, crew Mauro Parladori and Dean Bassi: the board of the Barcolana organizing ricolo) gained access to the final of the Champions League September in Porto Cervo, where the best clubs from the various national leagues will compete, just as happens in the football Champions Cup.
THE STATEMENTS
“The Italian Sailing League has won its first regatta,” are the words of Roberto Emanuele de Felice, President of the Italian Sailing League, “and having started like this, there is a risk that we will go really far….
“We have seen these days exalt the sport of sailing. – comments Alessandro M. Rinaldi, LIV executive vice president – With this format, the Italian Sailing League promotes the development of competitive sailing within yacht clubs by selecting the best sailing members. From today, we will all be cheering for Circolo Lauria and the Sailing Society of Barcola and Grignano, Italy’s standard bearers in the Sailing Champions League.”
