It was the most eagerly awaited sport sailing event of the year, one that saw 72-foot monsters wanting three meters on the water and gliding at more than 40 knots compete against each other. After initial skepticism, the format caught on and enthralled the public, culminating in what many believe is the greatest comeback in the history of the sport: in fact, Oracle Team USA found itself down 1-8 with Emirates Team New Zealand in the final. All seemed lost, but instead the Americans managed to turn the result around, nullifying no less than seven “match points” for their opponents. Chapeau.
