It is a great Azzurra in Palma de Mallorca! The new TP52 in the power of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (recently built at King Marine shipyards in Valencia) triumphed in its class at the Gaastra Palmavela, the opening event of the Wally, Maxi, TP52 and offshore season in the Mediterranean.
WE ARE ONLY AT THE BEGINNING
Vasco Vascotto and his teammates won the test event ahead of the 2015 season (which will begin in Valencia May 19-23, with the first leg of the 52 Super Series): “This was not the regatta we were supposed to win,” said Vascotto, “but I certainly don’t want to hide my contentment with the result. It seems to me that everything is going as well as it could, both the new boat and the crew, but today’s result is a starting point for us to improve even more, we are aware that we have to make steps forward, the competition in the 52 Super Series is very tough.” The final standings see Azzurra ahead of its longtime rivals Quantum Racing and Interlodge. Fourth place for Alegre. In the other classes, it is worth noting the victory of Cesare Bressan’s Italian Tp52 Airis in ORC 0.
THE OTHER STATEMENTS
Riccardo Bonadeo, Commodore of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda: “Well begun,” goes the adage! Certainly Azzurra’s participation in PalmaVela was functional in preparation for the 2015 52 Super Series, which will see a leg hosted by us in Porto Cervo in June, but winning on her debut with a new boat can only bode well. Congratulations to the crew and heartfelt thanks to the Roemmers family, our partners and owners of Azzurra.”
Guillermo Parada, skipper: “We had a good week and we are happy, especially with the knowledge that we did a good job tuning, trying many new things. Winning on the debut with a new boat is always a nice way to christen it, but the most important thing is having done many of the things on our long list. So many more remain and we will still be here in Palma working over the next few days.”
