It is the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda team, made up of Alberto Ammonini’s First 40 Lancillotto, Giuseppe Morani’s First 34.7 Vulcano 2 and Pierfranco Di Giuseppe’s Swan 45 Aphrodite, that won the second edition of the Gavitello d’Argento-Yacht Club Challenge Trophy Bruno Calandriello, the competition for club teams organized by the Punta Ala Yacht Club, with support from sponsors Pharmanutra, Prysmian and Slam, which ended today in the waters surrounding the Maremma promontory.
A CLEAR SUCCESS
A clear and well-deserved success, that obtained by the fellowship of which His Highness the Aga Khan is the President and Riccardo Bonadeo the Commodore, which finished with a total of 45.1 points, preceding the team from the Parma Yacht Club (Stella by Cavalieri/Fava, Farr Marmo by Alberto Franchi and Coconut by Francesco Sodini, 58.6 points) and the team of the Chiavari Yacht Club (Chestress3 by Giancarlo Ghislanzoni, Brainstorm by Stefano Mosca and Low Noise II by Giuseppe Giuffré, 92.5 points). Fourth place for Circolo Nautico e della Vela Argentario and fifth for Yacht Club Santo Stefano (full ranking at www.puntalagavitello.it).
Thirteen competing club teams, with a total of 39 IRC and ORC International-certified boats, brought to life the second edition of this event established in memory of Bruno Calandriello, a longtime YCPA president and successful owner in the 1970s and 1980s.
While Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, which thus succeeds Yacht Club Parma in the event’s roll of honors, won the 2015 Yacht Club Challenge Trophy Bruno Calandriello, the hulls that came out on top in the individual overall rankings were just Aphrodite (ORC Prysmian Trophy) and. Star (IRC Trofeo Celadrin), while the combined 151 Miglia-Gavitello d’Argento Trophy went to Cronos 2 by Valerio Battista in ORC and Star by Cavalieri-Fava in IRC.
The work of the Race Committee chaired by Sandro Gherarducci was excellent, and the entire organization of the trophy, taken care of by the Punta Ala Yacht Club of President Alessandro Masini and Sports Director Filippo Calandriello, was also much appreciated: the appointment with the third edition of the Silver Buoy-Yacht Club Challenge Trophy Bruno Calandriello is for next year, again in early June and of course always in Punta Ala.
TUSCAN ARCHIPELAGO TROPHY
The 1st Tuscan Archipelago Trophy, organized by Yacht Club Repubblica Marinara Pisa, Yacht Club Punta Ala, Circolo Velico Canottieri Porto Santo Stefano, Circolo Nautico Vela Argentario, Circolo Canottieri Aniene, was awarded.
At the end of the prize-giving ceremony of the 151-mile race, the last race valid for the awarding of the Trophy, the two Trophies reserved for IRC and ORC class boats that obtained the best scores in the “Long Windward,” “Queen of the Netherlands,” “Silver Race,” and “151-mile” races were awarded.
