The 2015/16 America’s Cup World Series? They will start in Italy. In fact, Cagliari will be the first stop on the circuit of preliminary regattas for the 35th America’s Cup, scheduled for June 4-7, 2015.
YOU FLY IN FRONT OF THE CASTEDDU
The Sardinian capital, already chosen by Luna Rossa as its training venue, will host all six teams entered in the 35th America’s Cup: Oracle Team USA, Artemis Racing, Ben Ainslie Racing, Emirates Team New Zealand, Luna Rossa Challenge, Team France; the races will be particularly spectacular as the 20-meter AC 45 one-design rigid-wing catamarans, modified to sail in a “full foiling” configuration, take flight.
THE PROGRAM.
The program includes the opening ceremony on Thursday, June 4, 2015, a day of mandatory training on Friday, June 5, two races on Saturday, June 6, and two races on Sunday, June 7, at the end of which the awards ceremony will be held. Teams will sail to Cagliari from Sunday, May 31, to familiarize themselves with the race course ahead of the competition. The event will be officially unveiled-with a detailed plan of the race course, shore facilities and various activities-in Cagliari at a press conference to be held in spring 2015. “America’s Cup World Series – Cagliari – Sardinia,” an event of high international visibility and sporting level, was born from the collaboration between the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, the Municipality of Cagliari, the Port Authority, the Harbour Master’s Office, the Navy and Luna Rossa.
