The TAG Heuer VELAFestival which was held from April 10 to 13, 2014. in Genoa, organized by the Newspaper of Sailing at the onshore and offshore spaces of the Fair Marina, left behind a trail of enthusiasm toward the sailing industry that is driving the economic recovery of this sector. Thanks to multimedia communication through paper, web, TV and social networks, the 2014 edition of the great sailing festival involved an audience of more than one million real and virtual visitors. A unique event dedicated exclusively to all-around sailing such as there are none in Italy, but not even in Europe. A sea of numbers testifies to this, decreeing the success of the innovative formula of this event that combined exhibition spaces, boats at sea and ashore, events, regattas, exhibitions, videos, good food, and music into one. This mix was associated with communication involving print, web and TV that was unparalleled in Italy. The result of this communication strategy has caused the audience of visitors to the event to multiply exponentially. The thousands of “physical” visitors, in fact, are side by side with a much larger number. More than one million “virtual” visitors wandered into the informal atmosphere among enthusiasts that TAG Heuer VELAFestival was able to create.
