Alinghi takes 2014 Extreme Sailing Series title

Alinghi, Ernesto Bertarelli’s team, won the 2014 title of the Extreme Sailing Series, the most prestigious professional catamaran circuit, in Sydney, Australia. Alinghi got the better of some of the most titled opponents such as The Wave Muscat, Emirates Team New Zealand and Red Bull sailing Team.
EIGHT 2014 STAGES
Eight stages of the circuit, which in 2014 stopped in a number of international cities such as Singapore, Muscat in Oman, Qingdao in China, St. Petersburg in Russia, Cardiff in the United Kingdom, Istanbul in Turkey, Nice in France and Sydney in Australia. As many as 231 total races were held.
LAST ACT IN SYDNEY
The Alinghi crew also won the eighth and final Act of the season in Sydney, having already prevailed in four previous Acts and never having been off the podium in the remaining three. Sailing aboard Alinghi in Sydney were Morgan Larson, Stuart Pollard, Pierre-Yves Jorand, Nils Frei, Yves Detry and Anna Tunnicliffe. Morgan Larson, helmsman of Alinghi said, “This victory is the result of the work of a great team and the unconditional support of Ernesto Bertarelli, our owner and patron of Alinghi.”
SECOND SUCCESS FOR ALINGHI
This success is the second of the season for Alinghi, following the victory of SUI1, the D35-class catamaran helmed by Ernesto Bertarelli that recently, on Lake Geneva, won with one race to spare in the 2014 Vulcain Trophy. The Vulcain Trophy is a one-design catamaran racing championship that has been held since 2003 in Switzerland, in which 11 teams including many international multihull champions participate.
