Since 1987 Sailitalia has been sailing on a course of success. At the helm, as always, are Mimmo and Michele Longobardo, at the historic headquarters in Procida: a magnificent Italian tourist resort that is now proclaimed “Capital of Culture 2022” and has been home to Sailitalia’s story for no less than 35 years. Mimmo Longobardo, CEO of the company, recounts, “On the May 1 weekend we celebrated our first 35 years. It was a wonderful three days of celebration and in conjunction with the events of Procida ‘Capital of Culture.’ Our boats accompanied the pupils of the Nautical Institute and the event organizers to witness the launching of the “Paper Boat” with which German artist Frank Bölter, wearing a suit and tie, was to cross the Procida Channel, representing in this way the fragility of boats carrying migrants.
The party then ended on Procida’s breakwater pier, the place from which our first charter boat departed precisely 35 years ago. We toasted with rivers of champagne, together with hundreds of people who came from all over the world for the occasion. There was no shortage of institutions, including our First Citizen, Dino Ambrosino, the Councillor for Tourism and the Headmistress of the Nautical Institute, who these days in our honor opened the ancient entrance from Marina Grande and organized the exhibition “Antiche Radici.”
