We had told you about the ICE 70, one of the latest additions to the volcanic Salvirola shipyard founded by Marco Malgara, which is now taking to the water with an update of this model that was a major success at the last Cannes Boat Show. The ICE 70 RS is the new version, where RS in ICE Yachts production stands for increased performance and more racer versions, as already experienced with other models.
THE RS VERSION
The ICE 70rs, developed by Umberto Felci’s studio together with the shipyard’s technical staff, is a true fast cruiser with incredible space utilization, beautiful lines and modern interior design. It is the big brother and natural evolution of the ICE 52, another bestseller from Ice Yachts with over 18 units produced to date.
The water lines and appendages are, unlike the classic ICE 70, characterized by variable draft due to the Cariboni hydraulically liftable keel that provides a draft from 2.80 meters to about 4.40m and are designed for great performance. Refined hydrodynamics that will also be felt in motOre sailing, where with the 200 horsepower it reaches and exceeds 11 knots at cruising speed.
Impressive early sailing performance numbers, where at 8 knots to windward the boat touches peaks of 10 knots. The ICE 70 RS has a fin with high mechanical characteristics and a numerically controlled milled lead torpedo, which offer the advantage of reducing the ballast weight and, therefore, the total displacement of the boat for the same righting moment.
CONSTRUCTION AND DETAILS
The hull construction is glass-carbon, all-carbon deck, and lightened interior. The hull and deck are laminated in infusion from female mold using carbon fibers; the structures also made of carbon are laminated in place and also made in infusion, becoming one with the hull and deck, eliminating creaks and noise. In addition to classic bonding, the deck is glued to the hull as well as all the bulkheads, creating a monolithic and very rigid structure.
Also, among the many on-board amenities are structural carbon tanks for liquids under the dinette floor, super soundproof engine room with double seals on the doors. The large garage, a record in its class and almost at the level of that of an 80-footer, is designed to hold an inflated 3.8-meter tender!
Two electric winches are provided in the garage for opening the hatch and moving the tender, again with comfort and ease of use in mind.
