The shoe is sometimes a sailor’s only point of contact with the boat, especially during the most delicate moments of racing when you have to move quickly and without slipping, perhaps on completely wet deck surfaces. Therefore, it is very important that the grip provided by the shoes ensures safety and a stable grip for the wearer. The Wave model Spider Shoes are designed by U-SAIL to provide the sailor with a comfortable, safe, grippy, and quick-drying shoe, plus a modern, good-looking design.
Wave U-Sail shoe – To never slip in the boat
This shoe was entirely conceived, designed and made in Italy, in the Marche footwear district, one of the flagships of Made in Italy. The most important strength of the Wave is definitely the sole, which has a non-slip tread pattern on smooth and wet surfaces that is unmatched. In addition, four small holes have been made to drain any water that may enter the shoe. The insole is also made of hydrophobic fabric and equipped with drainage holes to ensure quick drying. In contrast, the outer upper is made of water-repellent leather and contains the foot very well by supporting it, even at one of the most critical points such as the heel. Plus there is a special detail on the tongue. Indeed, here we find a small pocket in which to insert the laces to avoid getting caught or stuck.
Wave U-Sail shoe – An incredible sole
The sole of the Wave is truly unique. Water runs off thanks to the groove and drainage holes, so the tread can keep the shoe firm and steady. This allows the wearer to maintain balance without slipping, even on very wet inclined planes. Several crews chose to wear Waves, which are perfect for tackling challenging races even on very wet boats.
Wave U-Sail shoe – Tried and tested by professionals
Several sailors are involved in the ongoing development of the shoe, bowmen such as Nicola Stedile and Matteo Auguadro have confirmed to us that the shoe performs excellently on all kinds of surfaces, from teak to decks treated with EVA antiskid or non-slip paints. Luna Rossa sailor Francesco Mongelli has also worn them on several boats, having seen and tried them at METS a few years ago. Although the structure of U-SAIL ‘s Waves is extremely strong and solid, the shoe has a very low overall weight: just 269 grams, like a running shoe.
Wave U-Sail shoe – You wear it even at the dock
In addition to the technical aspects, which make people appreciate these shoes for their performance, there is also the aesthetic side. The minimal, understated look allows them to be worn even once off the boat. They are sneakers suitable for different situations, great to match with smart-casual clothing. The Wave are boat shoes designed for professional sailors, but their versatility makes them truly unique and suitable for all sailors and a variety of uses. U-SAIL’s work does not stop there, as a pair of sailing shoes is also in development. The boots are currently being tested on the feet of some sailors, such as Paolo Mangialardo, who is trying them out in the Italian A-Class catamaran championship.
