May 6 and 7 from 7 p.m. onward in the Events area on the Santa Margherita Ligure Harbor Calata, all participants in the regatta will be with bated breath waiting to know who will have won. And between the two award parties, the prizes will be truly endless!
Awards Saturday, May 6
Let’s start with the most coveted and valuable prize. In fact, a wonderful TAG Heuer AQUARACER chronograph in its latest version will be raffled among all boats participating in Saturday’s VELA Cup. It pays to attend the prize giving and VELA Cup Party, if you are not there you cannot win it!
Special prizes will be awarded to:
– the first overall winner, regardless of size, with the best performance (handicap system) among all participating boats (excluding multihulls);
– the first place winner in real time among all participating “Cruising Class” boats (white sails i.e. mainsail and jib/genoa only. Bow sails not inferred on the forestay are prohibited. By way of example: sails known as drifters, Code Zero, gennaker and spinnaker breakers are prohibited”);
– the first place winner in real time among all participating “Regatta Class” boats (Code 0, spi, gennaker, etc./ excluding multihulls).
Special rankings will also be compiled with awards for the categories:
– boats built by the Dufour shipyard (Dufour Cup)
– Vintage boats (construction before 1950 with any construction material)
– Classic boats (construction before 1975 with any construction material)
– Open boats (without cabin, excluding multihulls)
– Monotypes (same model from a single site)
– multihulls
Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in real time of both the “Cruise Class” and the “Regatta Class”) Of the following seven groupings: up to 7.50 m – 7.51 to 9.50 m – 9.51 to 11 m – 11.01 to 13 m – 13 to 15 m – 15 to 19 m – over 19 m.
In addition to the above prizes, a special “Gentleman Yachting” Award will be given to the boat that has distinguished itself by the elegance and style of its crew and yacht, regardless of the size and age of the boat.
And finally, the most sympathetic award. Even the last one to arrive in real time will have merit and receive a special prize.
Awards Sunday, May 7
Also on the second day of the regatta, in the same way as on Saturday, special prizes will be awarded to:
– the first overall winner, regardless of size, with the best performance (handicap system) among all participating boats (excluding multihulls);
– the first place winner in real time among all participating “Cruising Class” boats (white sails i.e. mainsail and jib/genoa only. Bow sails not inferred on the forestay are prohibited. By way of example: sails known as drifters, Code Zero, gennaker and spinnaker breakers are prohibited”);
– the first place winner in real time among all participating “Regatta Class” boats (Code 0, spi, gennaker, etc./ excluding multihulls).
– first place in real time among all participating boats “racing class” (Code 0, spi, gennaker, etc./ excluding multihulls)
Prizes will be awarded to the top three real time finishers of the “Cruising Class” and “Regatta Class” from seven groupings designed for homogeneity of theoretical performance and not by length, evaluated according to the parameters provided at registration (model, age, overall length, waterline length, displacement, upwind sail area).
Thus, for illustration, in the final ranking a potentially slower boat may rank ahead of a potentially faster one.
