The high expectations for this Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup were not disappointed. Between the debuts of FlyingNikka and My Song and the presence of the world’s most important maxis, the regatta satisfied even the most discerning palates. With so much debate on the web, where nothing else has been talked about these days. A 60-foot foiler ‘against’ the fleet of the most classic maxis in the regatta: the perfect topic for social media and surroundings.
Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup – the future is now?
Actually, the “foiler-not foiler” debate now seems sterile. FlyingNikka, on the other hand, gave an idea of what the world of 60-70 foot maxi racers could be in the future, albeit with variations on the theme, and showed it in the only possible context, the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup.
Only among these super yachts can there be owners and sailors capable of taking up the challenge, and the ambition, of such a project. Is a fleet of 4-5 boats like FlyingNikka possible in the near future? It is unlikely to happen in a short time, but it is realistic to think that in a few years Roberto Lacorte’s boat will no longer be alone.
My Song’s debut
Anyone who has seen the new ClubSwan 80 My Song up close in the water has described it as consistently fast. And indeed the regatta times do not lie: Pigi Loro Piana’s 80-footer has always raced close behind larger boats such as the Wallycento. In compensated time, however, it still needs time to fine-tune the boat and its measurement certificate. Results aside, the boat showed that mix of elegance, performance and aesthetic sense that has made Nautor’s history. The fifth place finish in the maxi category, always racing well, is an excellent starting point. FULL RANKINGS HERE
