Giuseppe Greco’s Comet 50 Verve-Camer won the sceptre of the Brindisi-Corfù international regatta. Behind her were Buena Vista and Iron Butterfly. A total of 79 crews took part in the competition.
A long course from Italy to Greece with a strong Mistral pushing on the sails. The 79 crews that were lined up for this year’s 36th Brindisi-Corfu International Regatta certainly had a lot of fun. The competition, organized by the Brindisi Sailing Club, was initially scheduled to start on Sunday 12 June, but due to the strong wind gusts the race committee was forced to postpone the start until the following day.
So on the morning of 13th June at 11am the fleet of crews crossed the start line from Brindisi’s outer harbour, between the Punta Riso breakwater and Costa Morena est. The Mistral continued to blow, but less turbulent to the delight of the crews. This year, for the first time, the boats initially headed towards the north coast, until they reached a buoy off Apani. From there they then headed towards the port of Kassiopi on the Greek island of Corfu, the final destination of the crossing.
Real-time victory for Idrusa
The winner of the line honours was Idrusa, the boat skippered by Paolo Montefusco, which arrived first in the port of Kassiopi at 16.49 Italian time (17.49 local time) at the end of an approximately 11-hour crossing. Idrusa, a traditional favourite, had taken the lead in the international race from the start. Also in second place in real time was Buena Vista of skipper and owner Luigi Pannarale, who crossed the finish line at 17.52 (18.52 local time). Finally in third place came Verve Camer. The Comet 50 R skippered by skipper-owner Giuseppe Greco arrived at 18.10 (19.10 local time).
The podium of the Brindisi-Corfu race on corrected time
After all the crews had arrived in Corfu, including the last to cross the finish line in the early hours of the morning of 14 June, the race judges worked hard to make the regatta classification official. And in the end the winner of this 36th edition of the Brindisi-Corfu was the Verve-Camer boat, first on corrected time. It took Giuseppe Greco’s Comet 50 R 12 hours to reach its destination. In second place was Buena Vista, the Fy61 of owner and skipper Luigi Pannarale, registered at the Cus of Bari. While on the third step of the podium came Iron Butterfly owned by Pano Atanas Vladimirov and skippered by Marko Marinovic.
And so one of the most eagerly awaited offshore events in the Adriatic closed with many emotions, many miles and a lot of fun. Appointment for all in 2023!
