We promised you a great sea festival, and so it was. The smiling faces of all the participants in the photo gallery speak for themselves. Here is a summary of what happened on May 7-8 in the Gulf of Tigullio. See you in Brindisi!
The legendary Gulf of Tigullio once again proved to be an unrivalled natural stage for hosting sailing events. Over the weekend of 7th and 8th May, it provided the TAG Heuer VELA Cup Chiavari with two days of “dancing” wind, but absolutely fun to sail in, a truly warm hospitality in the Marina Calata Ovest and a unique atmosphere of celebration, fun and genuine passion for the sea.
The many emotions and the right spirit to further colour the first leg of the TAG Heuer VELA Cup 2022 circuit organized by the Giornale della Vela were provided by the 60 crews who, in this capricious May weather-wise, decided to forego the usual weekend outings to properly celebrate the desire to sail with friends and family, test the boats and join in this great celebration of the sea. And anyone strolling around the docks that hosted the fleet could feel the palpable enthusiasm and desire to start racing and experiencing the sea again from all the participants, many of them foreigners from all over Europe.
Everybody participates, everybody wins. But what fun is that?
These two days passed between registrations, collection of gift bags, pre-race briefings, fierce duels along the beautiful course with start and finish off the coast of Chiavari, and moments of fun on dry land. Not forgetting the due celebrations with the presentation of the many prizes to those who won, those who distinguished themselves on the water and those who were simply kissed by luck in the draws. Because that’s the philosophy of the VELA Cup: everyone participates, everyone can win, and that’s great.

Two events in one: VELA Cup and ICE Cup
The third edition of the ICE Cup was a party within a party, which took place simultaneously with the VELA Cup in Chiavari and which gathered the elegant and fierce semi-custom boats of the Italian shipyard ICE Yachts under the command of Marco Malgara, himself lined up at the start aboard the ICE 62 Sueno.
In short, there was a lot of fun on the water, many families and tightly-packed crews, and also the presence of many journalists from the main Italian nautical publications embarked and ready to record the emotions and moods on board of two truly spectacular days immortalised by our official photographer Giovanni Mitolo.
