Historically, Oyster has not been a boatyard that frequently goes below certain sizes, which is why the launch of the new Oyster 495, a modern blue water, is so interesting and marks the British yard’s new interest in this market segment. The design was developed by Humphreys Yacht Design and Oyster’s own technical department for the interior.

Oyster 495, a ‘minimal’ boat

The result is a boat with an almost minimal design, a clean-cut deck and a panoramic deck saloon-style deckhouse whose large window gives a sense of movement to the boat’s aesthetics.

Short keel, comfortable sail plan

The limited draught of 2.28 metres, with an L-shaped keel (with the option of a short keel that fishes even less, at 1.83 m), is certainly geared towards the convenience of entering ports with almost any depth rather than performance.

Oyster 495The 21-ton displacement with 120 square metres of upwind sail area does not seem to describe a light breeze hunter.

A floating luxury apartment

After all, this isn’t a performance cruiser and the main priority is to have a comfortable boat with a very well finished luxury interior that can be lived in all year round. As you know, those who buy an Oyster are buying a luxury floating flat, equipped with every amenity, to set off to discover the world.

The large beam (4.77 m) translates into very large volumes below deck. The master cabin is truly impressive, with three patented Oyster Seascape windows that give a feeling of light and space. Air and light flood all the spaces below deck, from the saloon to the galley to the guest cabins.

On deck, the Oyster 495 features a cleverly designed central cockpit and deck saloon. The transom houses a motorised boarding/bathing platform, which is operated with a button from the deck. Sunbathing spaces everywhere!
