Everyone on a cruise would like to be able to enjoy a fresh drink from the fridge, listen to music, cook, and have pure fresh water from a watermaker. And who wouldn’t want to be able to sail comfortably, with the help of electric winches… As we all know, sailing comfortably takes up a lot of power, which is why we need several battery banks, each with its own dedicated battery charger.
Well, that’s no longer the case. Xantrex has launched its definitive solution to charging on-board batteries.
Xantrex Xplore: the super battery charger
It’s called the XPLORE and it’s the first charger, as far as we know, that can charge multiple batteries of different technologies (for example, a lithium-ion service battery and a lead-acid engine starter battery) at the same time. The XPLORE is capable of delivering a maximum of 120 amps and can charge up to six battery banks at the same time, which effectively eliminates the need for multiple chargers on board, further simplifying installation and maintenance of a boat.
Xplore, a smart system
What’s more, the system is smart and automatically identifies the battery most in need of energy, adapting the flow to accelerate charging. It is also effective for charging discharged batteries at very low voltage, and another interesting feature is temperature-compensated charging for efficient operation in all weather conditions.

Future product updates will be easily installed using the integrated USB port.
Remote control
The charger is waterproof and easy to configure thanks to its LED display: it can also be optionally managed with a remote touch control which in turn, via Bluetooth, interfaces with your smartphone to keep the situation under control with an app. You can also install another one in parallel in case you need more power.
Last but not least, being equipped with an NMEA 2000 interface, it connects quickly and plug-and-play to the on-board instrument network. The module measures 41 x 31 x 16.5 cm and weighs 5.9 kg. The price is approximately $1,500.
