Some time ago we told you about our test of the Lagoon 50, now the brand of the Beneteau group presents its successor, the Lagoon 51. The project has been entrusted once again to the VPLP studio, which has made some substantial changes compared to the 50.
Lagoon 51: what’s new
On the new cruising catamaran, Lagoon has increased the attention paid to outdoor spaces, particularly in two places, the fly bridge and the area in front of the deckhouse. The 50 had only a sundeck on the fly bridge, which on the 51 becomes a real living area with table and seats.
The same thing happened in front of the deckhouse: where there were previously only two seats, there is now almost a mini cockpit, while keeping the front net in place. A set of solar panels can also be positioned on the fly bridge to provide power for on-board services.
These choices meet the needs of the charter market, which can see a number of requirements met on a boat like this: comfort, privacy with more external living areas and multiple solutions for interior layouts, and ease of handling.
The rig is positioned on the flybridge and the cat will be equipped with a square-top mainsail and a smaller jib for a sail plan that is not too complex to manage, with the possibility of rigging a Code Zero or similar sails.
The interiors, enhanced by natural light from the glass deckhouse, were designed by the architects of Nauta Design, who exploited the large volumes of the cat to meet the various layout requirements.
The Lagoon 51 will be presented at the Multihull Show in La Grande Motte on 20 April. This new model will represent a great opportunity for Lagoon dealers (NSS Charter and Spartivento) to sell and hire because it promises to be a real “bestseller”.
