Nearly 100 people have now registered for Three Gulfs Sailing Week. Among them are many ORC cabin cruisers and the Maxis that have reached the limit number, but also historic boats and the splendid Swans. All united in this great celebration of the sea.
Registration continues apace for Three Gulfs Sailing Week, a historic racing kermis that is being staged this 2022 May 14-21. A unique event not only because of the naturalistic setting in which it takes place between the gulfs of Naples, Salerno and Gaeta, but also because of the mix of coastal and long distance trials it offers: the Regatta of the Three Gulfs, the Maxi European Championship, the Tyrrhenian National Championship and the ORC Mediterranean Championship.
Maxi European Championship is already “sold out”
As of today, the fleet of crews expected at Three Gulfs Sailing Week is about to turn the mark of 100 entries: in fact, 98 representing 14 countries have already completed entries. The Maxi European Championship is even “sold out” with the limit number of 25 boats now reached with more than two months to go. Therefore, the event organizers, strengthened by the willingness of the municipalities of the Sorrento Peninsula, are considering accepting a few more. The largest among the maxi entrants is the 100-foot Arca, which is also the favorite to win the “Roberto Garolla Challenge Cup of Bard,” which goes to the boat with the most wins in real time.
Among the various requests to participate in the Regatta of the Three Gulfs, which we remind you in this 67th edition is also open to historic boats, there are also several classic fiberglass boats, protagonists in the 1970s. They include Marina Spaccarelli Bulgari and Agostino Straulino’s Kerkyra, as well as various S&S Swans and early designs by German Frers. These beautiful “ladies of the sea” cannot be CIM-stabilized, but the regatta organizers are looking for a way to race them alongside the Classics.
So many Swans lined up on the starting line
Finally, the involvement at Three Gulfs Sailing Week of the prestigious Nautor’s Swan shipyard, recognized worldwide for its high-performance sailboats, should be highlighted. Both the ORC Mediterranean Championship and the Maxi European Championship are in fact trials included in their circuits, the Swan Maxi Series and the Swan Mediterranean Series, respectively. And there will be no shortage of special prizes for them including the Best Scored Swan among ORCs and the Swan Maxi Trophy which will consist of a unique artwork signed by a famous artist.
Three Gulfs Sailing Week: easy registration, racing and fabulous scenery
Tre Golfi Sailing Week is organized from May 14 to 21 in Sorrento by Circolo Remo e Vela Italia, in collaboration with the Yacht Club Italiano, Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia, IMA, ORC, UVAI, AIVE, and under the auspices of FIV. Three Gulfs Sailing Week encompasses four high-profile events: the 67th Three Gulfs Regatta, the first European Maxi Championship, the Mediterranean Orc Championship and the Tyrrhenian National Championship. Maxi yachts are hosted at the main pier of Sorrento’s enchanting Marina Piccola, while ORCs will be at the marina in the picturesque village of Piano di Sorrento: two unforgettable settings also for the social events that will welcome the crews.
