The registrations for the Tre Golfi Sailing Week, the historic sailing kermesse that will be staged from 14th to 21st May 2022, continue at a fast pace. A unique event not only for the naturalistic context in which it takes place between the gulfs of Naples, Salerno and Gaeta, but also for the mix of coastal and long distance races it offers: the Tre Golfi race, the Maxi European Championship, the Tyrrhenian National Championship and the ORC Mediterranean Championship.
As of today, the fleet of crews expected at Tre Golfi Sailing Week is about to cross the 100-boat mark: in fact, 98 crews representing 14 countries have already completed their entries. The Maxi European Championship is even “sold out” with the limit of 25 boats now reached more than two months before the start. For this reason the organizers of the event, thanks to the availability of the municipalities of the Sorrento peninsula, are considering the possibility of accepting a few more. The largest of the maxi entries is the 100-foot Arca, which is also the favorite to win the “Roberto Garolla di Bard Challenge Cup”, which goes to the boat with the most wins in real time.
Among the various requests to participate in the Tre Golfi race, which in this 67th edition is also open to historic boats, there are also several classic fiberglass boats, protagonists of the 1970s. Among them there is also Kerkyra owned by Marina Spaccarelli Bulgari and Agostino Straulino, as well as various S&S Swans and early German Frers designs. These splendid “ladies of the sea” cannot be CIM-rated, but the organizers of the regatta are looking for a way to race them together with the Classics.
Finally, the involvement in the Tre Golfi Sailing Week of the prestigious Nautor’s Swan shipyard, recognized all over the world for its high performance sailing yachts, should be underlined. Both the ORC Mediterranean Championship and the Maxi European Championship are in fact part of their circuits, the Swan Maxi Series and the Swan Mediterranean Series respectively. And there will be special prizes for them including the Best Scored Swan among ORCs and the Swan Maxi Trophy which will consist of a unique work of art signed by a famous artist.
Tre Golfi Sailing Week is organized from 14th to 21st May in Sorrento by Circolo Remo e Vela Italia, in collaboration with Yacht Club Italiano, Reale Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia, IMA, ORC, UVAI, AIVE, and under the aegis of FIV. Tre Golfi Sailing Week encompasses four high-profile events: the 67th Tre Golfi race, the first European Maxi Championship, the Mediterranean Orc Championship and the Tyrrhenian National Championship. The Maxi yachts will be hosted at the main pier of the enchanting Marina Piccola in Sorrento, while the ORCs will be at the marina of the picturesque village of Piano di Sorrento: two unforgettable settings for the social events that will welcome the crews.
In order to facilitate participants in the Tre Golfi Sailing Week, registration and documentation are available exclusively online at www.tregolfisailingweek.com, while the event’s organising secretariat is also available to help crews find the best logistical accommodation.
