America’s Cup: first AC 40 yachts under construction. VIDEO

AC 40 yachtsThe first moves are starting on the boats for America’s Cup 37. No, we’re not talking about the AC 75s yet, which until the venue is known will be a little slow in the design process, but the smaller AC 40s. The foiler derived from the 75s will be used for the Youth and Women’s America’s Cups, as well as for approach races by the main teams.

CONSTRUCTION

Being largely one-design crafts, the construction of the AC 40 yachts will be handled by a single yard: McConaghy’s, an Australian company, also based in China, specializing in building carbon composite racing yachts.

8 HULLS ORDERED

According to Team New Zealand, there are 8 AC 40 yachts under construction, the first of which should be launched in July, delivered to the Kiwis. And the others? One will go to each challenger, Luna Rossa, American Magic, Alinghi and Ineos. There are three left that have not been specified for whom they will be destined, but they could also be for private teams interested in participating in the Youth or Women’s America’s Cup.
