ELAN RETURNS TO ITS ORIGINS
Elan’s new boat is a bit of a return to its origins. While the Gran Turismo range, with the GT 5 and GT6, marked the brand’s entry into the world of blue water cruising, the E range represents the shipyard’s original DNA, that oriented towards sport cruising.
“The E6 was a great challenge to our capabilities and pushed the boundaries in terms of technology and design very far for us,” said Marko Škrbin, Director of Elan’s nautical division, in an official statement. – However, in concept and spirit, this yacht is more like a return to our roots”.
So the shipyard returns to its iconic bolder, grittier lines and slimmer volumes, always within the confines of a boat that will have one of its reasons for being used for cruising. But it will also be a boat that will be fun to sail in club and offshore races, thanks to its sporty weight to sail area ratio and the design of its hull. And then there’s the styling and aesthetics, with a clean, sleek deckhouse design. There will also be some details that recall the GT line: the continuous fenestration on the deckhouse is one of these, as is the “hollowed out” line on the side where the fenestration has been positioned. These choices give a touch of homogeneity to two ranges, the GT and the E, which differ in philosophy and conception.
ABOUT THE NEW ELAN E6
The keel will be T-shaped, with the option of draught at 2.40 or 2.80 metres, the latter being decidedly preferable for the boat to be used in races too. Double rudder blades and a maximum width of up to 4.49 metres mean that this boat will have a clear preference for downwind sailing, where it promises to be able to deliver outstanding performance.
The solutions glimpsed in the first drawings regarding the interior layout are also interesting: the galley will be on the right, the chart table on the left, but in a rather forward position, at the same height as the dining table. If necessary, the chart table can be lowered to the level of the seats of the sofas to increase seating for a square meal.
The boat will be unveiled at the 2022 Dusseldorf Boat Show.
