The first cat ever designed by German Frers

Ocean Explorer 72

Who knows if the great German Frers thought to put his “legendary” flare on the stern, the stylistic signature of many of his designs, when he designed the new Ocean Explorer 72, the new cat from this Finnish company. This is the first catamaran designed in the professional history of the legendary Argentinean designer, who is entering the world of multihulls with a design that, needless to say, stands out both aesthetically and otherwise.

If the legendary flare at the stern is more a touch dedicated to monohulls, it has to be said that German Frers has brought the personality of his style to the design of this boat. We notice the “master’s” touch in the design of clean-cut, essential lines, almost without frills, where everything seems to be in the right place. Sharp and light bows, with volumes that gradually, but harmoniously, widen towards the stern to create comfort inside the boat. The deckhouse is low on the deck, rounded and aerodynamic, with a shape almost reminiscent of a mini maxi monohull.

However, this is a special catamaran, with a central philosophy in its DNA: the boat, in fact, can be easily transformed into an all-round cruiser, capable of excellent energy autonomy from renewable sources, or into a racer equipped with foils for ocean races, or even something somewhere in between. The four-cabin layout offers a generous amount of space and comfort. A three- and five-cabin layout is one of several customised layout options available.

After all, that’s the identity of the shipyard that builds her, Finland’s Ocean Explorer, which is to create Ocean Explorer Catamarans designs and builds iconic semi-custom and true luxury deep-sea cruising catamarans for sailors seeking a balance between real performance and exceptional liveaboard comfort.
